~ The Picture and the History ~

This piture was taken on the movie set with my mother on the left and my aunt on the right.Oh yeah, and you guessed it Marlon brando in the middle, star of MGM`s movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" My mother and aunt are 5th generation descendants of Fletcher Christian, the man who founded the Pitcairn Island colony that still exists today as a result of the Mutiny on the Bounty. The events did`nt really happen as told in the movie.

Some of the mutineers elected to stay in Tahiti after setting the infamous Captain Bligh and 18 loyal officers and men adrift in a longboat. But Christian and eight other Englishmen took 12 Tahitian women and six Tahitian men and sailed off in the Bounty, eventually arriving at the uninhabited island of Pitcairn.

All went well until the Tahitian wife of one of the mutineers fell off a cliff while gathering bird`s eggs. The man who lost his wife stole a wife from one of the Tahitian men,and this caused trouble. The Tahitian men rose up and killed five of the mutineers, including Fletcher Christian, while they were in their gardens planting. This was in 1792,three years after the mutiny.

That left only four Englishmen. One founded a distillery and he committed suicide while he was drinking.Another attacked a young women and had to be killed by the remaining two mutineers. The third died of asthma.Only one was left - Alexander Smith, who became religious and changed his name to John Adams - and he was the the only one to die natural death,he lived to be 65.

Conversion to Christianity from the study of the Bounty Bible, he felt that education was of great importance,he gathered the youngsters together and using the only books he had,the Bible and the prayer book of the Church of England,he began teaching them to read and write. None of the Tahitian men fathered any children, but all of the mutineers did,so most of the families on the island today have English ancestors........

This is for all our men and women in uniform. Our prayers are with you!
